Windy Dawn Chorus by Lake Plocis, Baltic Coast

Artist:
Klaipèda, Lithuania
Notes:

On the 9th of June, 3am on a windy night, Gabrielė and I set out to cycle from Palanga to Lake Plocis and record a dawn chorus in Lithuania. Finally, after an eventful ride with deer literally jumping across the road 5 meters in front of us, we made it just in time as the sun was coming up. We were particularly interested in this lake because it is located in a beautiful natural reserve hundreds of meters away from the Baltic Sea and it also hosts a Great Cormorant colony. Last year, we recorded a nocturnal Great Cormorant colony ambience in Neringa (another site on the Baltic Coast) and were interested to hear how this one compares. Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to get as close to this one, but it can still be heard chorusing in the background and occasionally some Great Cormorant vocalizations stand out. Even though it is an unusually cold June this year and the birds are not as active as they normally are, still a rich variety of them can be heard. Among the species recorded, we hear the Thrush Nightingale, Song Thrush, European Robin, Eurasian Blue Tit, Eurasian Blackbird, Eurasian Blackcap, Eurasian Wren, Common Chaffinch, Common Chiffchaff and others slowly waking up and joining the chorus. All in the backdrop of the wind blowing through the pines, with occasional gusts rushing through the path we were standing on and a distant Baltic Sea.

Recorded together with Gabrielė Griciūtė, or as a duo – Allosci.
