Winds and Waves at Billing Forest
14th November 2023. It is pitch dark. The Night is slowly transitioning into Dawn.
Billing Forest is a stretch of High Altitude Subtropical Pine Forest, in the Dhauladhar Ranges of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh, India.
The soundscape at this time is mainly the wind moving through the Pine trees, and a stream of water flowing thousands of meters down in the valley, surrounded by mountains. There are occasional but sparsely distributed bird calls, the rustling of leaves, and the echo of the vast openness which slowly becomes visible as the dawn strikes, with the first rays of sunshine illuminating the snow-laden peaks of Dhauladhar. Once remotely accessible, and mostly by foot, a new road constructed along this stretch of forests, will connect Billing to areas in Barot Valley. Barot Valley, located on the banks of river Uhl is known for Trout Fish Farming, and the Reservoir of Shanan Power Project built during the British Colonial Rule.
