Willamette Wetland
It’s a late summer morning and I’m at the waters edge of a large pond in a wide open marsh in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, calmly taking in the landscape.
Surrounded by meadows, prairies, and a nearby forest, this wetland and floodplain has a fascinating and diverse wildlife that call it home. Bullfrogs and bees provide the steady and constant background as a light wind occasionally rustles and sways through the cattails and tree leaves. Each of the birds, some in the trees, some out there somewhere in the water, seem to have such a different and unique sound. As time passes one feels a bit closer to the gradual ebb and flow.
Some of the birds that can be heard here are Song Sparrow, California Quail, Spotted Towhee, American Coot, Marsh Wren, Common Yellowthroat, Pied-billed Grebe, Red-winged Blackbird, Black-headed Grosbeak, Canada Goose, along with quite a few others.
