Waves and Birds on St. Clements Bay
From Le Hocq, I followed the curve of St Clement’s Bay westward to a quiet stand of trees clinging to the Jersey coastline. I had marked this date a week in advance, with a rare forecast promising still air, no rain, and an early calm before the roads filled with weekend movement. Perfect recording weather.
I placed the Zoom F3 beneath the trees, its LEDs blinking softly in the half light, then retreated a few dozen metres to let the soundscape unfold undisturbed. The gentle wash of the tide met the chorus of morning birds, each species carving its own space within the sound field.
The short recording captures:
Eurasian Oystercatcher
Carrion Crow
Common Chiffchaff
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Common Firecrest
A subtle mix of coastal rhythm and woodland texture, a reminder of how alive the island sounds when you stop to listen.
