When you don’t sing and the wind isn’t blowing I hear nothing. Eyes closed, laying flat in my small backpacking tent I feel suspended in the silence. A single call rings out faintly in the dry air as I drift to sleep. Awake again, how long has it been? A single call rings out faintly this time followed by another. Slip into the present with in breath and time looses significance. Eternity is here and perceptible. On the edge of consciousness. On the note of a song.

These sounds were recorded on the ancestral land of the Northern Paiute people.
