South of São Tomé at Dusk

Porto Alegre, Sao Tome and Principe
Notes:

South of Sao Tome at dusk: Recorded at dusk near Jalé, in the southwest of the island. A windy evening inside the rainforest with the shoreline close by.

This track belongs to a field recording project that captures the natural soundscapes of São Tomé e Príncipe, an archipelago located in the Gulf of Guinea. The island was chosen for its rich environmental diversity, from volcanic peaks and dense rainforests to coastal areas, offering a wealth of auditory environments that are less documented in widespread recordings. The aim was to create a collection reflecting the distinct sounds of these varied habitats.

The recording process involved spending time in each location to carefully listen and observe the surroundings before capturing audio. Recordings were often made over extended periods to encompass the natural progression of sounds, including wildlife activity, changing weather, and the subtle shifts within the environment. From a substantial amount of recorded material, the final album was shaped by selecting and arranging pieces to convey the unique feel and transitions between different locations across the island.
