Singing Gibbons
While hiking back to camp from my morning recording session, I was stopped in my tracks by an incredible sound from the treetops. It was a pair of gibbons singing their haunting duet. Their melody echoed through the jungle, a powerful reminder of Thailand’s wild beauty. Gibbons are known for their remarkable vocal displays. These small apes perform loud, complex calls that echo through the forest. Mated pairs often engage in coordinated duets, with patterns varying by species. Their vocalizations play crucial roles in communication, pair bonding, and marking territory. The Kaeng Krachan national park is part of the Western Forest Complex, which includes 19 protected areas spanning over 18,730 km² across the border with Myanmar. The terrain is predominantly covered by evergreen rainforest, with the highest peak reaching approximately 1,513 meters above sea level.
