Rain and Amphibian Songs in the Southern Atlantic Forest

Artist:
Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
Notes:

This moment was recorded under a very tiny animal shed at the base of a forest mountain with a very small water canal in between.
From the end of the afternoon, coming back from a river swim, we started hearing strong calls and at first we wondered if they were a kind of duck or a frog; it was very percussive. The house owners then told us they were frogs and that they hear them virtually everyday, so they “didn’t even hear them any more”. It is fascinating to think about the curiosity that takes place in first time experiences vs habituation. While I was in awe and all I wanted was to sit outside and listen, people around me were talking loud over loud music and loud meal preparation.

As soon as everyone was preparing to go to sleep, I set up my gear outside, protecting it from the inevitable rain – after all we’re in a tropical forest in the mountains and in the rainy season.
I’m still in awe over what I heard.
