Light Jungle Rain

Artist:
Khao Sok National Park, Thailand
Notes:

This recording presents the feeling of the monsoon season in Thailand’s Khao Sok National Park. During this time, bird activity is at its minimum, but the rain in the thick forest creates its own unique soundscape.

It begins with light rainfall, which gradually transitions into a brief, quiet period where the rain stops and only drops from the cliff and treetops can be heard. As soon as rain stops, the jungle is quickly coming back to sonic life. The cicadas start singing, and there’s even a quick sound of monkeys and birds in between. But as is common in monsoon seasons, just when it seems the rain has stopped, it quickly starts again in full force.

Capturing these sounds required a two-hour hike to find a suitable location—a small, sheltered area beneath high cliffs covered in vegetation. This spot provided natural protection for the recording equipment while allowing clear capture of the surrounding rainfall.
