Nocturnal Echoes of Ancient Peaks

Artist:
Langkawi, Malaysia
Notes:

This recording captures the tranquil ambiance atop Gunung Mat Chinchang, one of Langkawi’s most significant geological landmarks. Standing at 708 meters, this ancient peak is part of the Machinchang Formation, with rocks dating back 500 million years, making them some of the oldest sedimentary formations in Southeast Asia. As you listen, you will primarily hear the dusk sounds of various insects and frogs in the forest, set against a backdrop of sharp ridges and valleys sculpted by centuries of erosion. To reach this ancient mountain place, I needed to do intense trekking and partly climb on a very steep rocky terrain for about two hours in the intense tropical heat. All of these were worth it after reaching the top, where the landscape view of distant wild rainforests and oceans has opened up. I ended up spending the night up here, setting up the hammock camp and capturing all the unique sounds offered by this special place.
