Himalayan Forest Valley

Artist:
Annapurna Conservation Areas, Nepal
Notes:

A hidden forest valley at 2,200 meters in the winter Himalayas of Nepal. When you think of the Himalayas in winter, you might imagine freezing temperatures and deep snow, yet the reality—also affected by climate change—can be quite different. Even at this altitude in December, nighttime temperatures stayed above 0°C, and when afternoon came, the sun warmed the ancient forest. The weather remains dry and sunny at this time of year, allowing diverse bird species to thrive even at these high elevations in the pristine, biodiverse forest. You can hear a distant avalanche from Manaslu Mountain at 32:15.
