Gariwang Mountain Mossy Valley
Gariwang Mountain Moss Valley is located in Jangjeon-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. It is a valley located at the north-western foothills of Mount Gariwangsan (1,561) in the Baekdudaegan mountain range in South Korea.
Gariwang Mountain is also the site of the Winter Olympics.
The mossy valley where the recording was made is about 8 kilometers away from the Olympic venue and Mount Gariwang is specially managed by the government for environmental protection.
The valley is covered with moss in all seasons. Mosses are plants that are as old as the earth, and there are more than 16,000 species worldwide. It’s awe-inspiring to think that they live by absorbing moisture through their entire body, not just their roots.
Mt. Gariwang is a large, rocky mountain, and the mossy valley is filled with large boulders down to the valley floor.
The sound of the water was recorded as both flowing over the rocks and flowing through the rocks. The depth of the sound varies greatly from place to place.
In April, when this recording was made, spring had not yet arrived, and snow and ice had melted from the high mountains. The
valleys were rich in water.
