Evening Wind through Black Oak Woodland, with Striped Honeyeaters
An ambient nature evening mood piece, peacefully simple: the breeze soughing through black oak woodland; the quiet ‘tocking’ of Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters already roosting; and a final ‘good night’ burst of song from a pair of Striped Honeyeaters (Plectorhyncha lanceolata). After that, only the wind in the trees.
In secluded open Mallee country, the gentle soughing of the wind during the evening quietude sounds out differently according to the trees and bushes through which it travels. The sound of Sheoaks (in this recording, the so-called Black Oak (Casuarina pauper), also known by the indigenous names of Belah and Kariku) is especially beautiful and soothing, and an excellent prelude and accompaniment to deep, calm sleep.
Recorded with meditative respect in the country of the Meru and Danggali clans.
