Dawn Chorus at Thol Bird Sanctuary
Every year between December and February, a large number of birds migrating from regions as close as the Himalayas to the farthest corners of the Arctic Circle can be found in the Indian state of Gujarat. This region comprises of deserts, warm low-lying areas with small lakes, backwaters, scantily vegetated marshes, and other shallow-water enclosures adjacent to the western coast of India, along the Arabian Sea. Thol Bird Sanctuary is one such enclosure, in and around Thol Lake, near the city of Ahmedabad.
This dawn chorus was recorded during the last week of January 2024. One can listen to several native and migratory birds in the recording. Greylag Geese, Demoiselle Cranes, Flamingos, Pelicans, Sarus Cranes, Purple Morehens, Ibis, Egrets, and Herons to name a few.
