Chalaadi Glacier in Georgia

Artist:
Mestia, Georgia
Notes:

The Chalaadi glacier is located in the Svaneti mountains of eastern Georgia. The region of Svaneti is home to the largest glaciers in the Caucasus mountain range and the Chalaadi glacier is just one of them.

The Chalaadi glacier graces the slopes of Mount Ushba, nestled right by the border with Russia. This valley glacier boasts a glacial tongue stretching approximately 6 kilometers in length.

On that particular day, I embarked on a hike from Mestia, the nearest village, covering a total distance of 25 kilometers, taking my time to savor the journey. The weather was exceptionally clear, offering breathtaking views. As I approached the glacier, I carefully placed my mics to capture the gentle stream of water cascading down.

This glacier holds significant importance as it feeds the Chalaadi River, which later merges with the Mestiachala River downstream.
