This recording is part of a series of my stay in this lush and inviting rainforest, which stands a true testimony of regeneration. A vast area that, over 30 years ago, was made of farms, is now a grown and diverse secondary growth rainforest. This matters, as the numbers for the Atlantic Forest loss and fragmentation are devastating but it’s also estimated that more than 4 millions of ha have regenerated in this period. However, this didn’t happen by chance: almost half of the regenerated areas occurred in rural agricultural properties, showing us once again that we can have a positive impact.
The nocturnal soundscape in this track has been recorded just between secondary growth and native forest, in a flat area uphill, after hiking more than 300m in altitude. Titi monkeys live nearby as well as a number of endemic bird species that are mostly quiet during this time. The sounds are pulsating, crisp and yet gentle and inviting.
