Beach Adélie Penguins
Artist:
Torgersen Island, AntarcticaNotes:
On Torgersen Island in Antarctica, adult Adélie penguins toddle down from their nests to the beach, then linger at the ocean’s edge. They are eager to plunge in and feed, but wary of the leopard seals that often lurk offshore. Amidst melting chunks of marooned brash ice the Adélies stare at the water, then exchange quizzical glances and honk at each other, as if negotiating who will go in first.
