A ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ Wet Forest Dawn in Loongana

Loongana, Tasmania, Australia
Notes:

This peaceful ‘perpetuum mobile’ dawn recording was made in perpetually protected private forest reserve that features one hundred year old regrowth wet sclerophyll forest composed predominantly of manna gums (Eucalyptus viminalis), alpine ashes (Eucalyptus delegatensis), ancient rainforest remnants, cool fern glades, riparian habitat, and limestone karst including a fascinating cave system (not for the claustrophobic) deep below the fertile forest. Naturally, the wildlife here is as rich as the forest itself. Amongst the plentiful birdlife, of the twelve bird species that are endemic only to Tasmania, eleven are found in this protected forest. It’s truly a vital refuge, in so many ways, despite (or perhaps because of) the fact that it’s literally ‘right next door’ to cyclically clear-felled forestry plantations comprising a mix of native and introduced tree species.
