Dear friends,
Have you ever wanted to embed Earth.fm nature soundscapes on your website? Great news – now you can! Let us introduce you to our ‘embed track’ feature.
What is the ‘embed track’ feature?
With this function, Earth.fm recordings can be played on your own website via an embedded audio player. Visitors can therefore listen to full-length recordings directly from your site.
Here’s an example: Melissa Pons – a field recordist as well as Earth.fm’s curator – has added her track ‘Autumn Dusk Chorus with Iberian Midwife Toads’ to a post on her personal website. That way, visitors to her site can enjoy listening to the recording at the same time as reading her content.
Customizing the audio player
When you embed a track, you can also customize the audio player’s theme and size.
There are two themes: a green one (the default Earth.fm audio player) and a yellow one. Text colours will be adjusted for readability according to which theme you choose.
There are also two size options: compact (190px in height) and standard (350px).
These customization options may be expanded in future. Please get in touch to request any specific customization options!
What options are available on the menu of the embedded audio player?
In the bottom right hand corner of the audio player is a menu. Its options include:
- Listen on Earth.fm: This will open the recording’s Earth.fm page in a new tab
- Add to library: If the user is signed in to Earth.fm, they will be able to add the recording to their library. Otherwise, selecting this option will redirect the user to become a member, in a new tab
- Copy the link: This adds the link for the recording’s Earth.fm page to the user’s clipboard, allowing it to be shared.
How to use ‘embed track’
- Choose a recording: Find the Earth.fm track you’d like to embed
- Access the embed option: In the recording’s action menu (accessible via the three-dot button), click the ‘Embed’ option.
Alternatively, you can select the embed icon under ‘Share with your friends’.
3. Customize your embed code:
In the ‘embed track’ popup:
- Click ‘copy’ to save the embed code to your clipboard.
- Select your desired theme and size; the preview in the popup will be updated accordingly when you change these options
- Optionally, you can click ‘show code’ to preview the HTML code
- Add the code to your website by pasting the HTML code into it.
For WordPress websites
To embed an Earth.fm track on a WordPress website, you’ll need to use the ‘Custom HTML’ block. Select this in your WordPress content editor, then paste the code within the field, as in this image:
We hope you enjoy our new embed track feature!
